Satellite Provision

Greenacre Satellites

From September 2014, Greenacre School began educating a number of its pupils in two mainstream schools, Kexborough Primary School and Darton College (host schools). In September 2015 this was then further extended to include Hoyland Springwood Primary School (host school).

Called ‘Satellites’, this model was developed in partnership with these host schools to support:

  • Greenacre’s desire –to support inclusivity within Barnsley’s educational community.
  • The need within Barnsley for additional specialist places.

It is important to note that, whilst educated within mainstream schools, all children have Greenacre named on their Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).  As such, the Satellites are an extension of Greenacre, as opposed to any formal or direct connection between the host school and Greenacre school.

The Satellite model continues to evolve, with additional provision at Outwood Academy Carlton and an additional Primary Satellite currently under development for September 2018. If you have any queries relating to the Satellites, please contact (or advise parents/carers to contact) either myself or Sharon Wainwright at Greenacre School on 01226 287165, [email protected] or [email protected].

Lessons are planned in line with the current National Curriculum but is heavily differentiated and personalised to ensure that all children can make progress from their relevant starting points.

We are seeking to ensure funding and additional space for this provision to continue into the future. The children and their families have shared their positive feedback with Greenacre:

“Kai has had a lovely weekend but was very happy to put his school uniform on this morning”.

“Ben had a really good night’s sleep and cannot wait to get to school today.  He has enjoyed telling me what he has been learning about.
… just wanted to say how nice it is to see Kaiden come home and not get stressed like he used to.  The last two days have been great when he arrives home.  I am happy to see him smile”.

“It’s a very exciting time and we are really looking forward to working with you and the rest of the staff. We are confident that Ellie will go from strength to strength at Kexborough”.

“I think what is exciting for us as a family is the things he is learning with you guys (Greenacre Team). I am so impressed and can see why OFSTED gives you the outstanding mark. You guys put everything in to these special children and it’s wonderful”.
